Former runner Cedric Benson dies at 36
He was not a major star in the league. But one of the most gifted runners of his generation. On Saturday night in Austin, Texas, Cedric Benson died, at the age of 36, in a motorcycle accident. A woman, whose identity has not been released, also lost her life.
Drafted as a fourth pick by the Bears in 2005, the Texas prospect was quick to mark his home turf in Chicago. Alongside Thomas Jones, Devin Hester and Brian Urlacher, he helped the franchise reach Super Bowl XLI, losing to the Indianapolis Colts.
Despite health concerns, and the end of his illinois lease, the running back was able to revive in Cincinnati, completing three seasons at more than 1,000 yards between 2009 and 2011. In search of a Super Bowl with the Packers, he eventually had to give up because of a serious foot injury.
He finished his career with 6,017 yards and 32 touchdowns in seven and a half seasons.
