Julien Gauthier, a composer and french taker, was camping in the Tulita Forest, a hamlet near Lake Mackenzie in northwestern Canada. Her friend, who accompanied her, said that on August 15, while they were sleeping, a grizzly bear popped up and attacked them. Julien Gauthier's body was found the next afternoon in a wilderness area when the young woman escaped unharmed.

A business trip

Initial evidence gathered by the Royal Canadian Gendarmerie corroborates his version of events, the animal grabbed the 44-year-old man in the neck and shoulder before taking him into the forest, Le Parisien reports.

The two friends were in this forest as they rode autonomously, the Mackenzie River by canoe from Fort Providence to Inuvik. The objective of this trip was to record sounds in the wilderness to organize an exhibition in the Paris region.

Regularly, the Frenchman gave news of their adventure that began on August 1st. A few days before the tragedy, he had posted this message on his Facebook page: "Already 5 days of canoeing and wild camping, 3 of which without having crossed soul that lives ... Apart from 4 bears, lots of birds of all kinds, and a wolf trace that appeared during the night 20 meters below the tent! Tonight is well deserved rest (after 1 day of incessant rain) in a small village of about fifty inhabitants, Jean-Marie River, and here there is wi-fi."
